My Roots

I'm not talkin' about the natural color of my hair.

Today, I'm thankful for my German Heritage.
I've always wanted and enjoyed being unique. Being half German definitely has set me apart from most. And I love it!

I remember in 7th grade, we were reading Anne Frank. My teacher asked the class if anyone had family on both sides. I was the only one able to raise my hand. Not that I'm all excited WWII happened, but I like that I have history to share.

Really the only thing that makes me sad about it, is that my Omi and Opa are so very far away. I don't get to visit them very often, but when we do it's always a time to treasure.
When we were there for Christmas we were there for two weeks and I feel like we didn't get near enough time with them.
Here's the perks of being German:

AMAZING CHOCOLATE!!!!!Responsibility to learn a language (working on that :/ )
Everyone comments on your mom's accent that you can't hear
Required trips to the country to see family
Best Christmas traditionsLovely food (If you're a girl this is really good. All the Return Missionaries that served there want to come to your house for original home cookin'. This definitely was a benefit. ;) )
Hearing the stories of living in Germany. There are so many differences AND similarities.
My parents "How We Met" story is pretty awesome.
I will age very, very well. :) The women in my family are so gorgeous!

I'm sure there's more, but this is all I can think of at the moment.

To my German family, I love you and miss you.

To my American family.....you're okay too!

  1. As I was reading this posting, I totally related with EVERYTHING you said... however there is one difference. The women in my family- and the men for that matter- really don't age well! haha! Other than my mom of course. Maybe it's because they're still smoking alchies! lol
