"I Love To See The Temple"

I’m thankful for the Temple.

Again, for those that are not members, this could be hard to understand.

What aren’t hard to understand are the feelings you are able to feel within the grounds of the temple. Every single time I come close to one of those magnificent buildings, I feel the love my Savior and Heavenly Father have fore me. I feel lighter and happier.

The ordinances that take place within the walls of the temple are very sacred and dear to us, who are members of the church. To simply throw out the details would be like taking a beautiful painting and saying it’s sort of okay and tossing some extra paint on it. Making the picture tarnished.

Here’s how I look at it.

Pretend you received a present. It’s a pretty dang awesome present. It’s one that you’ll always treasure because someone important in your life gave it to you. They made it for you. They told you that they want everyone to have it, but wanted it to be a surprise for them. The others would have to work hard and show that they were ready for the gift, just like you did. You would be able to help them work for it, but you couldn’t tell them the surprise.

Tell me. Would you be so bold as to ruin that surprise for the others?

Would you tell someone all about it so that when they received it, it wouldn’t make the gift so wonderful? It would just be ordinary.

Would you say, “Well, I had to work really hard for this gift, but since you didn’t do anything to show you’re ready for it and since you’re just so curious…I guess I can tell you”?

Understand, personally, I HATE surprises. I like being prepared.

This, however, I can guarantee is worth waiting for. And it’s not something you want to just jump into if you aren’t ready. It’s like learning a math equation. You can’t understand how to work Geometry unless you’ve learned simple addition and subtraction. Baby steps.

Alright, ranting aside, I really do love the Temple.

I’m thankful for the Temple because of the peace, hope, and love I feel there.

I’m thankful for the Temple because I know and believe that it is a House of God.

I’m thankful for the temple because I am a better person because I have kept myself worthy to enter through its doors.

I’m thankful for the temple because I know and believe that because I was married there to my husband, we were married for time and ALL eternity.

Yup, that means he’s stuck. J But he’s totally okay with it. Promise. ;) I asked….a lot.

If you are a member what is your favorite part of going to the temple?

If you are not, have you ever been to the grounds of the temple or gone to an open house of a temple? What did you think?

  1. My favorite part of going to the temple is feeling the peace that is inside. The feeling of leaving everything in the world behind to enter the walls of the temple and have peace and quiet and to feel God's presence. I love sitting among so many temple worthy people and knowing that we are not there because we are perfect. We are there as imperfect people who are striving to be better, to do what our father asks of us and to be happy. I love looking over at my husband at the temple and knowing that we together are striving for the same thing.. to return to our Heavenly Father... and that we are sealed for Eternity! K.. there's my rant. haha! Sorry.. just answering your question.. and I LOVED your analogy of the sacredness of the temple! That was perfectly said! And a good way to let those that don't understand.. understand a little better!

  2. My very favorite part was when I went through the very first time with my fiance- now husband. It was amazing to be there together and to face each other, and now it's to just be there together holding hands when we can... and enjoying the peace in a very chaotic world. I really enjoyed this blog Jenny!

  3. I can't wait to go through the temple and be sealed. It's going to be the best. The best thing about the temple is that it literally is heaven on Earth. What could be any better?
